Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday flagged off exports of Maruti Suzuki’s first global electric SUV, the e Vitara, and launched local production of hybrid battery electrodes at Suzuki’s Gujarat facility.

Calling India a “hub for green mobility,” Modi announced that EVs made in India will now be exported to over 100 countries. He also inaugurated a lithium-ion battery plant set up by Suzuki, Toshiba, and Denso, which will manufacture most key components locally.

The e Vitara, India’s new global EV, comes with two battery pack options and a range of over 500km in its top variant. Maruti Suzuki will back it with chargers, fast-charging points across 100 cities, and 1,500 EV-ready workshops.

Modi urged citizens to celebrate festivals with Made in India goods, reinforcing his swadeshi call.
