Assam’s beloved cultural icon, Zubeen Garg, was cremated on Tuesday with full state honours at Kamarkuchi NC village near Guwahati. Thousands of fans, family members, and dignitaries gathered to pay their final respects to the legendary Assamese singer.
His wife, Garima Saikia Garg, was inconsolable as she sat beside her husband’s mortal remains in prayer. In a moving tribute, fans sang “Mayabini Ratir Buku,” a song Garg had wished to be played at his farewell.
The funeral procession began at the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex in Guwahati and was followed by crowds lining the streets. At the cremation ground, priests recited Vedic hymns, Assam Police offered a ceremonial gun salute, and leaders including Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Kiren Rijiju paid floral tributes.
