On the second day of his Japan visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba for a bullet train ride to Sendai, symbolising the strength of India-Japan cooperation in high-speed rail.
Along the way, Modi met Indian train drivers training with JR East, interacting warmly and posing for group photos. The Japanese Prime Minister posted updates from the ride on X, saying he was accompanying Modi to Sendai.
Earlier in the day, Modi also engaged with governors from sixteen Japanese prefectures in Tokyo. He underlined the importance of subnational ties, noting that the State-Prefecture Partnership Initiative would unlock progress in areas such as trade, innovation, entrepreneurship, and emerging technologies.
The visit comes as Japan reaffirmed its commitment to invest USD 68 billion in India over ten years, highlighting how bilateral ties are expanding beyond central governments to people-to-people and state-level partnerships.
