Leaders of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) lashed out at the Congress on Friday over an AI-generated video showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother expressing disapproval of politics being played in her name. The video was shared by the Congress’s Bihar unit ahead of Modi’s visit to the state on Monday.
Earlier, abusive remarks targeting the Prime Minister’s mother during the “Vote Adhikaar Yatra” in Darbhanga had sparked controversy. Modi himself condemned the remarks, calling them an insult to “all mothers and sisters” that people of Bihar would not forget.
JD(U) working president Sanjay Kumar Jha accused Congress of desperation and said dragging the PM’s mother into politics revealed its “disgusting mindset.” Party colleague Neeraj Kumar called it “the height of shamelessness.”
BJP leader Anurag Thakur said mocking a deceased mother showed “how low Congress and RJD want political discourse to sink.” Union minister Nityanand Rai also targeted RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav for his silence, calling it complicity.
Deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary described the video as “mental bankruptcy.”
Congress’s Pawan Khera defended the clip, claiming no offensive content. But insiders admitted unease, saying the timing was poor and that the issue may derail the party’s narrative in Bihar.
