According to authorities, an assistant professor at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Silchar, Assam, was taken into custody on Friday on suspicion of sexually harassing a female student.
Dr. Koteswara Raju Dhenukonda, who has been suspended by the institute, was taken from the institute's campus after the victim and her family filed separate complaints, according to Cachar Superintendent of Police (SP) Numal Mahatta. He first attempted to conceal by locking his quarter door from the outside, but we were able to track down his cell phone position and apprehend him at approximately 5:30 p.m.

According to a police officer, he was later taken into custody under a number of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) regulations.
Hours after the lady, a Bachelor of Technology student, complained, the institute suspended the professor, who lectured in the Electrical Engineering Department, "with immediate effect." In order to demand action against the lecturer, the students also organized an overnight demonstration.

The victim claims that the professor called her into his chamber, which is when the alleged sexual harassment occurred.
After calling her to his chamber to address her poor scores, the woman claimed in a written complaint to the institute's officials that the professor had sexually touched her.

"He questioned me why I receive worse grades and requested me to sit next to him. He began to touch my fingers and grip my hands. Then he slowly grasped my thighs. Then, in front of me, he began to play offensive music on his computer while rubbing and touching my tummy. I began to cry, but he persisted. He requested that I stretch my legs wide and feel at ease. The letter, which has gone viral, said that "he then grabbed my neck from behind and remained holding it."

The woman claimed that after receiving a call from her companion who was waiting outside the cottage, she fled. She declared, "This is an instance of sexual and mental harassment as well as molestation."
In the notice, Registrar Ashim Roy stated that the chamber in question had been "locked" after the alleged event. He stated, "The victim is given all the support she needs to feel safe and at ease."
Roy added that the institute's Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) has been tasked with looking into the situation.

Dilip Kumar Baidya, the director of NIT Silchar, presided over a meeting earlier in the day to talk about the case. "Now everything is how it should be. Since the majority of the students were demonstrating till four in the morning, there were fewer students there today," he remarked.
