ICMR and AIIMS studies found no evidence linking Covid-19 vaccines to sudden deaths.
Lifestyle factors, genetics, and existing health issues are more probable causes.
Over 800 sudden death cases were reviewed across 50 hospitals in India.
The Union Health Ministry has firmly stated there is no evidence connecting Covid-19 vaccinations to sudden deaths, countering recent remarks by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who suggested a link between heart-related fatalities in Hassan district and the vaccines.
Multiple studies conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) have found no significant change in the causes of death patterns compared to previous years. Instead, researchers have highlighted factors such as genetics, lifestyle habits, and pre-existing health conditions as more likely contributors.
Dr. Manoj Murhekar, Director of ICMR’s National Institute of Epidemiology, emphasized the findings of a large-scale multicentric study that analyzed around 800 cases of sudden death in apparently healthy adults aged 18–45 years across 50 hospitals. “Our research did not establish any association between Covid-19 vaccination and sudden unexplained deaths,” Dr. Murhekar clarified.
