PM Modi Receives Cyprus’ Top Civilian Award from President Christodoulides

On Monday, June 16, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honoured with the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III, the highest civilian award of Cyprus. The accolade was presented by President Nikos Christodoulides during a formal ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia.

Named after Makarios III, the first president of the Republic of Cyprus, the Grand Cross is reserved for heads of state and individuals of exceptional stature who have made significant contributions to the nation or humanity. The award symbolizes Cyprus' deep appreciation for global leadership and service.

By conferring this prestigious honour on Prime Minister Modi, Cyprus recognized his role in enhancing bilateral ties and fostering mutual cooperation between the two nations. In his address, PM Modi expressed sincere gratitude to President Christodoulides, the Cypriot government, and its people for the recognition. He also underscored the historical and cultural bonds between India and Cyprus and reiterated India’s commitment to deepening collaboration in areas such as trade, technology, education, and tourism.
