A pensioner in eastern Poland narrowly escaped injury on Wednesday morning when a drone crashed into his home, moments after he had been watching television reports about Russian drones entering Polish airspace.
At around 6:30 a.m. local time (0430 GMT), Tomasz Wesolowski was in the living room of his house when the drone struck the upper part of the building, ripping apart the roof, damaging a bedroom, and scattering debris across the garden.
“I turned on the TV, and all the news was about this massive drone flight,” Wesolowski told Reuters. “After a while, I heard a plane flying over… and suddenly something boomed. The light fell from the ceiling in the living room. I ran outside and saw the whole roof in shreds — everything was destroyed.”
His wife, Alicja, who also rushed out of the house, said she saw a plane overhead and feared they were under attack. “I thought we were being bombed or that someone would start shooting at us,” she recalled.
Fortunately, neither Tomasz nor Alicja sustained any injuries, though their home suffered significant damage.
