Pollachi School Sexual Harassment Row: Woman Who Filmed Victims’ Testimonies Questioned by Police

Herald Team

A 38-year-old woman who allegedly recorded videos of schoolgirls accusing male teachers of sexual harassment at a government higher secondary school near Pollachi was questioned by police on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters after appearing before the All-Women Police Station at Podanur, the woman said she released the videos on social media to expose the misconduct. “I took the video to reveal the truth. After this, male teachers will think twice before misbehaving with girl students,” she said.

In her statement, she alleged that one teacher encouraged girls to dance by making inappropriate remarks about their movements, while another physically misbehaved with them. According to her, the girls confided in her, following which she decided to make the videos public.

The Coimbatore rural police said a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act would likely be registered against the teachers named by the students. “We will examine the videos and take further action, including possible arrests,” a senior police officer confirmed.

Meanwhile, investigators visited the school on Friday as part of the inquiry. Officials also noted that they were verifying the authenticity of the complaints amid speculation that the girls may have been influenced to tarnish the teachers’ reputation.

Chief Education Officer R. Balamurali stated that the department was awaiting the police and Child Welfare Committee’s reports before deciding on further steps.
