Herald Team

In a pre-dawn raid on Sunday, Pune Police busted a rave party held in a studio apartment in the upscale Kharadi area, seizing narcotic substances, hookah equipment, and liquor from the premises. The operation, conducted by the Crime Branch based on a tip-off, led to the detention of seven individuals—five men and two women.

Among those detained was Pranjal Khewalkar, an entrepreneur and film producer who is also the husband of Rohini Khadse, daughter of senior Maharashtra politician Eknath Khadse and current state president of the NCP-Sharad Pawar women's wing.

Authorities stated that Khewalkar was allegedly caught red-handed during the raid. He was taken for a medical examination before being escorted back to his residence. While the case has been formally registered, investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of narcotics use and procurement.

The incident has triggered political commentary. Eknath Khadse has demanded an impartial probe to ascertain whether the police action was politically motivated. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) deputy leader Sushma Andhare termed the raid a "warning" to voices critical of the government.

Police have reiterated that the crackdown was part of a broader campaign to curb illegal drug use at private gatherings and parties in the city.
