Punjab DA Case: Bikram Majithia Sent to Nabha Jail Amid Ongoing Corruption Probe

A court in Punjab's Mohali district has remanded Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former state minister Bikram Singh Majithia to judicial custody for two weeks in connection with a high-profile disproportionate assets case. He will be lodged at New Nabha Jail until the next hearing, scheduled for July 19.

Majithia was arrested on June 25, 2025, by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau under the Prevention of Corruption Act. He is accused of laundering over ₹540 crore allegedly linked to drug trafficking proceeds and acquiring assets far beyond his known income. Investigators claim to have found substantial undeclared wealth, including benami land holdings—such as a registry for 402 hectares in Shimla—unaccounted cash deposits, and suspicious foreign transactions. These were allegedly routed through shell companies and complex financial networks.

Public prosecutors Ferry Sofat and Preet Inderpal Singh said new revelations emerged during Majithia’s custodial interrogation and that further remand could be sought if additional evidence surfaces.

The case has drawn national attention due to its reported links to a 2021 drug trafficking case in which Majithia was a key accused.

Majithia’s legal team, led by Arshdeep Singh Kler, has dismissed the allegations as baseless and politically motivated. Kler argued the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government is using the case to target opposition leaders, adding that no concrete evidence has been presented so far.

Majithia has also challenged his arrest and remand in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, calling it illegal and driven by political vendetta. While the High Court refused to grant immediate relief—citing procedural issues—it has posted the matter for further hearing on July 8.
