Congress leader Sam Pitroda, who recently sparked debate with his remark about feeling “at home” in neighbouring countries, has issued a clarification. He said his comments were intended to highlight shared history and people-to-people bonds across the Indian subcontinent.

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Pitroda stressed that he did not intend to ignore conflicts, terrorism, or security challenges. “My aim has always been to raise awareness about electoral concerns, civil society, youth engagement, and India’s regional and global role,” he said.

Pitroda added that if his words caused confusion or hurt, it was unintentional. His focus was on fostering honest conversation, empathy, and a responsible approach to India’s image abroad. He cited his visits to Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal, saying he felt at home due to cultural and historical ties.

The BJP criticized his remark on Pakistan, accusing Congress of undermining national interests. Pitroda has previously sparked controversy over statements on diversity and inheritance tax, emphasizing that his words are often misinterpreted.
