A 21-year-old woman from Tripura has alleged that she was gang-raped by five Manipur students studying at the same university. The incident reportedly occurred during a house party in Guwahati on September 13.

According to police, all five accused are minors. Two of them have been apprehended, while the interrogation of the remaining three is underway.

The victim, in her complaint, stated that the assault took place in a rented flat on the seventh floor of a private building, where several teenagers had gathered for a party. She alleged that after returning to her room next to the party venue, she was raped under the influence of alcohol and only realised what had happened the following morning.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Guwahati), Amitav Basumatary, told Hindustan Times: “The girl lodged a first information report (FIR) at Guwahati’s Pani Khaity outpost on Tuesday, and we picked up the five accused, all minors. Two of them have been apprehended, and the other three are being questioned.”

Police are also investigating the ownership of the rented flat where the incident occurred.
