3 arrested in Aldona sarpanch assault case

They were produced before the Mapusa JMFC which remanded them to 10 days police custody

MAPUSA: The Mapusa Police on Sunday arrested three persons in connection with the brutal assault on Aldona sarpanch Pranesh Naik. 

The arrested include 25-year-old Nerul resident Rakesh Sutar, 21-year-old Caranzalem resident Javed Bellary and 25-year-old Merces resident Aslam Nayak. They were produced before the JMFC Mapusa which remanded them to 10 days police custody. Earlier last week, Mapusa Police had arrested 31-year-old Aldona resident Nikhil Panjikar, who is presently on police remand.

It may be recalled that last week, a group of eight masked persons had attacked the Aldona sarpanch when he along with his friend were at a restaurant in Carona. The sarpanch sustained serious injuries after being assaulted with a chopper, knife and baseball bats. Naik is presently undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.

Vijay Karbotkar, who is suspected to be the main accused in the case, is still absconding. 

Mapusa Police have registered an offence under Sections 143, 144, 147, 148, 452 and 307 of the IPC against Karbotkar and other unknown persons.
