After Pharma co, now Nestle at Usgao to allow women on night shift

PANJIM: The Goa government has permitted a food manufacturing company – Nestle - at Usgao, Ponda to employ women in night shifts for a period of two years, by following guidelines specified in the Factories Act. 

Last month the Inspectorate of Factories and Boilers had allowed employment of women at night in a pharmaceutical company at the Verna industrial estate.

The government has laid strict guidelines including CCTV monitoring at workplace, canteen, proper lighting and toilet facilities, pickup and drop facility, etc, for the safety and security of women working in night shifts, the factory management said. 

In August 2019, the Goa government amended the Goa Factories Act, to allow women in the industrial sector to work on night shifts between 7 pm and 6 am. The government has put stringent conditions and that no woman would be forced to work at night at night against their wishes.
