MAPUSA: In continuation of its war against drugs, the Anjuna police raided the Shiva Valley Restaurant (shack) at the beach near the flea market on Saturday and seized various incriminating documents.
“We raided the area after Suraj Prasad Todi, an accused who was arrested on Thursday in Siolim, in an NDPS case revealed the names of several persons involved in the nefarious trade,” said DySP Jivba Dalvi said.
It may be recalled that the police stated that during Todi’s custodial interrogation, he had allegedly disclosed that drugs were available at Shiva Valley Restaurant, Anjuna.
Accordingly, a search warrant was obtained and a team consisting of scientific assistant, dog squad and staff of the Anjuna Police Station was formed and the restaurant premises raided on Saturday and incriminating material suspected to be having traces of drugs were sent for forensic examination,” Dalvi said.
Dalvi added that the seized articles will be sent for chemical analysis to find out if any traces of drugs were detected and based on the report action would be initiated against the owner and manager of the said restaurant.
The raiding team was headed by PI Prashal Dessai, Scientific Assistant, PSI Sahil Warang and staff of the Anjuna Police Station.
Earlier, the Anjuna police had raided the House of Chapora and seized similar substances. This is the second such raid in the last two days.
The police have swung into action followed a report on O Heraldo highlighting how the drugs were entering into the educational institutes in Siolim Constituency.
It may be recalled that the Siolim-Sodiem gram sabha had hit out against the Mapusa and Anjuna for failing to initiate action against flourishing drug trade in the Siolim Constituency with school children falling prey to it.
