VASCO: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho assured the new RTO office premise to be fully operational within the period of 15 days.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of new Assistant Director of Transport Office at Baina, on Friday evening.
Godinho said he is happy in bringing new office here and this department will grow in leaps and bounds.
“People will get good services from the department and within 15 days the office will be fully operational with registration, licences and permits," Godinho added.
“I want Goa Electronics Limited (GEL) to get fully involved with the digitalisation but also Transport Department will perform its function which comes in its ambit,” he said.
Commenting on the taxi operators’ issue, Godinho said, “Taxis must have metres installed. GoaMiles is a good app based service which is garnering positive support from youth, tourists and women, who are happy with their service. It is not new thing that is happening in Goa but all over the world app based taxi services operate.”
Coming down strictly on the drunken drivers, Godinho said his department will take strict action against the drunken drivers and on the trucks that are being parked on the highway road. The road is not for parking but for the commuters. The business establishments should make parking arrangements for the trucks. We need to have transport hub, with cloakroom services to the truck drivers etc.”
He also stated that Panjim and Mapusa Bus Stand projects will also be taken up on priority basis.
Last 32 years, the RTO was operating in the old establishment near municipality garage. There was no enough space for parking. The new premise will have issuing of licence, registration, paper work, tests and customer services will be given in the new premise. The old office will be operational as a back office for keeping records etc.
Guest of Honour Mormugao Municipal Council Chairperson Nandadeep Raut said, “The old office was problematic and lacked some facilities but the new office is expected to provide better services.”
He also opined that RTO offices across State need to be digitalised providing online services.
Raut further mentioned that he expects Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho to bring in better changes.
Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida requested to complete the KTC Bus Stand Project quickly which is being pending since past few years.  He also requested to increase the passenger bus services for people's convenience.
Transport Director Rajendra Satardekar, Vice Chairperson Reems Sonurlekar and Councillor Yatin Kamurlakar were also present.
