BELGAUM: The procedure to implement the long-pending four-lane work of the Belgaum-Panjim NH 4 A is expected to commence soon, as NHAI authorities have commenced serving land acquisition notices to farmers on both sides of the present highway.
According to officials, notices are being served to farmers on the 50 km stretch of the highway between Belgaum and Londa. The NHAI authorities in their notices served have directed farmers and others to collect their cheques for compensation of their land to be acquired. However, according to the information given by farmers, they are demanding for higher compensation as the compensation amount offered by the NHAI authorities is too little.
“Notices have been served to farmers from Macche, Nittur, Ganebail, Halkarni, Khanapur, Gunji, Londa and other villages whose land lies adjacent to the NH4 A. We have offered the prices ranging from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh per acre, depending on the location of the land. Even the felling of the trees is under completion and now we intend to accelerate the procedure so that actual widening work commences at the earliest possible,” an official said on the terms of anonymity.
The NHAI is planning by-passes near Peerandwadi, Khanapur, Gunji and Londa, where huge agriculture land is required.
