VALPOI: The bison are straying into the paddy fields and kulagars in Sonal village and destroying the crops like banana, areca nut, and coconut trees among others.
The farmers from Sonal village are complaining about the ravaging of crops for the past several years. “We have filed multiple complaints with the forest officials but in vain. The forest officials never visit Sonal village to inspect the destroyed crops,” say farmers.
“Despite the many odds we have been facing and notwithstanding the huge cost involved in the cultivation of fields. We have been working tirelessly, however, all our efforts and money are now wasted due to the damage caused by the bisons”, the farmers claimed.
“The bison are entering into the kulagar during night hours and destroying agricultural crops for the past few years. I had complained to the Forest Department but they have not taken any action,” said Krishna Nene, a farmer.
The farmers urged the forest minister to look into the matter and find a solution to the issue and also appealed to the Forest Department to take steps to prevent the bison and other wild animals from entering their fields.
“We request the forest minister to find a solution to this issue and compensate us for our losses,” the farmers said.
