Boat Owners Association demands basic facilities at Chapora Jetty

MAPUSA: The Xapora Boat Owner's Association submitted a memorandum to Fisheries Minister Nilkhant Halarnkar demanding repair of the Chapora jetty with basic facilities.

Chairman of the association, Bhalbhim Malvankar in the memorandum stated that the Chapora Jetty requires repair while the office of the association needs renovation. The memorandum also stated that the jetty lacks basic facilities such as toilet.

Hundreds of people local as well as tourists visit the jetty every day however due to absence of basic facilities such as sitting arrangement, toilet facility, people face inconvenience. 

Bhalbhim Malvankar said, “For past several years, the jetty has been ignored. We had even approached the previous Fisheries Ministers but none paid attention. Through this letter, we have requested the present Fisheries Minister to visit the jetty and inspect it and take necessary steps to improve it.”

Halarnkar said he will discuss the matter with the Directorate of Fisheries first. “I will speak to the director, gather information about this Chapora Jetty issue and visit the place,” said Halankar.
