PANJIM: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is set to ink a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Directorate of Higher Education (DoHE) to provide practicals, employment and skill-oriented education to Commerce students and faculty members.
The MoU, which is in the draft stage, will also assist the DHE in drafting the curriculum for Commerce stream as per the current requirement.
Addressing media persons on Friday, ICAI Western India Regional Chairman Murtuza Kachwala said that a draft MoU has already been submitted to the DHE to help students at the university, pursuing Commerce, to gain industry experience with accountants.
He said that several colleges, when contacted, requested the ICAI to provide training to their faculty members, whose knowledge is restricted to only books.
He said that students are provided learning of 35 hours in Tally, Direct Tax and Indirect Tax.
“The MoU will provide practical, skill and employment-oriented education to Commerce students and faculty. It will be helpful to extend academic cooperation for various Commerce courses, conduct faculty development programmes, help students seeking jobs with CA firms and enhance skill sets of students,” Kachwala said adding that a one-year internship is also provided to the students.
Kachwala informed that the ICAI is signing MoUs with different institutes in Maharashtra and Gujarat.
“The DHE was of the view that we should assist them in drafting the curriculum, which we agreed upon. The academicians feel that there is a need to bring change in syllabus,” he said.
