CANACONA: It appears that the guilty will have to pay a price as Canacona MLA and Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar clearly stated that he would not tolerate anybody bringing disrepute to the taluka.
He chaired a meeting of government officials, local elected representatives and prominent people from the taluka, where the main agenda was apparently the sting operation conducted in the early hours of November 3 wherein brazen corruption at the Polem check post was exposed.
It may be recalled that during the sting operation conducted by Aam Aadmi Party Goa President Amit Palekar along with some media persons during which it was exposed that trucks were allowed to enter or exit Goa without any checking provided the driver bribed the officials present. During the sting operation, on seeing the media persons, the police were seen shooing away drivers coming with the money while the Excise Department officials fled the scene in their official vehicle and unaccounted amount of Rs. 1.06 lakh was found in the locker of the RTO official who tried to hide in the cabin.
Ramesh Tawadmar informed Herald that he had sought a detailed report about the incident from the three departmental heads and said subsequently he will submit his report to the Chief Secretary.
“I can assure you that the guilty will not be spared as I shall ask for stringent action against them so that it become a lesson to all that such acts will not be tolerated at least in Canacona,” he said.
