PANJIM: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Goa has not received a single complaint of bribery or misappropriation of assets against any Central government employee since 2018, according to CBI Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) SP Ashesh Kumar.
Speaking to mediapersons as part of the ongoing Vigilance Week at his Bambolim office, SP Kumar on Wednesday said not a single complaint was filed in Goa against acts of bribery or disproportionate assets by employees of Central government and public sector undertakings.
“Last five years not even a single case of bribery and disproportionate assets have been filed. We had received a complaint last in 2018. We are sitting idle in Goa because there is no participation on the part of people and media in Goa,” he said adding, “That means there is no corruption in Goa and there is Ramrajya here.”
“Many Central government officers come to Goa, make money, create assets, many costly apartments are being purchased but no complaints are being filed against them. This means that there is no corruption in Goa,” he remarked.
Presently, the CBI ACB Goa has 80 cases under trial, eight cases are pending investigation and three live cases and two are loan fraud cases that are being investigated by them. The Goa CBI has five investigating officers and a total of 25 staff to handle cases.
Defending the CBI, SP Kumar said, “If there is a case filed and if we have not investigated then it can be alleged that the CBI is not working. But, if there are no complaints then what can we do? ,” he asked. He appealed to the people to come forward and fearlessly lodge their complaints against corrupt Central government employees either physically at the CBI office, Bambolim or via email or phone number.
It may be recalled that Herald through its weekly Review questioned whether the CBI is unable to deliver justice to the complainants in the various cases that were referred to CBI for investigation. The CBI has through the media interaction attempted to assert the fact that the office is established in the State to handle corruption cases.
