MARGAO: As per the resolution taken at the Chinchinim gram sabha, the Chinchinim- Deussua panchayat has decided to hold a meeting with farmers to record their feedback and inputs on the Draft Agriculture Policy, which would be then sent to the State government.

It was decided that all farmers, farmers clubs and other stakeholders concerned be called for this meeting for the discussion on the policy.

It may be recalled there have been successful attempts in reviving cultivation in huge acres of what was once fallow lands in the village.

The villagers also made it clear that they are opposing the attempts of outsiders entering Goa under the guise of contract farming.

This concern was raised while discussing the aspect of contract farming as per the draft agriculture policy, where fear was expressed that this could be a backdoor entry for big industrialists from outside Goa to enter the State and take control of the agricultural lands.

It was a common demand from all the villagers hat the thrust of the agricultural policy should be for the welfare and promotion of Goan farmers only.
