MARGAO: The Colva Police Station that had no major crime registered in 2016 had to deal with two murders, one attempt to murder and one dacoity last year and all the major crimes were detected and of the 11 fatal accidents registered 10 were detected.
The two murder cases were the murder of Dular Munda from Jharkhand who was murdered by his friend Sachin Oraon from West Bengal. The incident occurred on February 12 at Benaulim when Sachin assaulted Dular with a dhanda on the head and face and Dular died of the injuries.
The second murder was that of Assamese Samuel alias Rahul Soren who was murdered on December 12 by Magna alias Suraj, his wife Etna Devi, Pradeep Hora and Safar Khan, the last two being Magna’s friends. While Pradeep and Safar were arrested from Raia Santemoll, Magna and his wife Etna were apprehended in Jharkhand and brought to Goa.
The attempt to murder case was registered against five persons living in Goa namely Sahil Ali Shah, Surat Singh, Mustaque Attar, Saurav Naik and Saiprasad alias Arro Kavlekar who assaulted three persons from Bombay with a knife on February 25, 2017 at Sernabatim beach. The victims were Vincent Rodrigues, Amit Pednekar and Lloyd Pereira.
While Colva police detected the only dacoity and robbery cases, they could not detect the one housebreaking by night and two housebreaking by day cases and of the five auto thefts registered only two could be detected.
Of the 11 fatal accidents registered at the police station, 10 were detected while the person who hit Bishnu Datta on January 31, 2017 and fled from the scene could not be traced even as Bishnu succumbed to the injuries sustained in the accident. Incidentally, there were another five cases of a person succumbing to injuries sustained in a self accident.
While 25 gambling cases were registered, 187 cases were registered against hawkers and one case was registered against a beggar.
Colva Police registered 180 cases for smoking in public places and 506 cases under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Acts. 220 cases were registered against people for littering and throwing garbage in open spaces.
As many as 2219 cases were booked under the Motor Vehicles Acts as against the 1849 cases registered in 2016.
Colva Police booked 257 cases for prevention of criminal acts as against the 96 that were registered in 2016.
