PONDA: Bus passengers in Ponda for the last several months have to battle the hot sun and dust as they wait for their vehicles to arrive. The Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited has failed to provide basic facilities to the passengers despite the fact that a notable number of inter-State buses visit this bus stand.
The renovation and repair work of Ponda KTC bus stand has been going on since last year which was completely stopped in the interim. The work had resumed last month and looking at the pace here, passengers are worried that they will have to suffer during the monsoon as well.
People from other States use this bus stand in large numbers to board buses, however, lack of basic facilities such as sitting benches and drinking water is causing grave inconvenience to the passengers.
Locals have accused the KTCL of not paying enough attention to the way the work is being carried out.
Due to the Karnataka Assembly elections which was held on Wednesday, many Kannadigas were seen struggling to catch buses on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“Since the work of the bus stand is still not complete, people wait on the road which could lead to mishaps. There is no seating arrangement whatsoever and people have to buy water bottles to wash their hands and face,” said Ramesh Patil, who was travelling to Ramnagar.
