PONDA: Pondaites claims that for the past three days they are facing low pressure and acute water shortage after their share of water was allegedly diverted to Panchwadi and Shiroda.

Social worker Viraj Sapre said they have no water to wash even their hand. There is water supply for one hour but there is low pressure. He said they badly need an additional water tank for Ponda town.

Sapre said the crisis started since past three four days after PWD started diverting water from Ponda tank to Shiroda and Panchawadi, due to water shortage there.

He said after Mhaisal dam at Panchwadi ran dry, the water which come from Opa water works is now diverted towards Shiroda and Panchawadi and this is the main reason they have no water.

Sapre further elaborated that this tank has storage capacity of 60,000 litres.  He said  he complained to PWD officials but there is seems to be no solution in site.

Meanwhile when contacted the officials of PWD said the before Mhaisal dam the water was supplied to Shiroda from Opa plant. After Mhaisal dam came into operation the supply was disconnected but as of now there is a water crisis there and hence the valve of the old line has been opened to supply water to Shiroda.

Sapre said currently the people residing at JC Nagar, Jofilnagar, Sapna Park, Bhavani Nagar and surrounding area struggle to get water due to very low pressure and that too for only one hour and water doesn't climb to the top of buildings. He said politicians in Ponda are busy playing politics, while people are suffering due to water shortage. He said four years back new water tank was proposed at Ponda, and even sweets were distributed but thereafter nothing happened.

Meanwhile as on Monday the Mhaisal dam level reached almost at ground and 1 MLD water is supplied to single village at Panchawadi while Shiroda and Panchwadi other parts is getting water from Opa Plant and Selaulim dam water. The perennial source of rain dependent Mhaisal dam was supplying 10 MLD water to Shiroda and Panchwadi Village Panchayats which is dried due to scorching heat and following this Villages is getting water from Opa Plant and Selaulim Dam.
