SANGUEM: As there has been no action in the matter of dumping cucumbers in an abandoned mining pit at Avalimoll in Netravali village panchayat member Rakhi Naik is now set to approach the Agriculture Department.
She lamented that despite knowing the serious threat it poses to the locals as the putrid fluid is flowing into the nearby river, the authorities, including the Health Department, have remained silent spectators.
It may be recalled that a Talathi from the Mamlatdar’s office had inspected the site some days ago, but his report has not yet been made public.
Sanguem Mamlatdar Gaurav Gaonkar, while admitting that he has received the report from the Talathi, refused to divulge its contents and said he will discuss it with the Deputy Collector.
However, Rakhi Naik who had raised the matter says the lack of action on the part of the authorities makes her suspect that efforts are on to shield the person responsible for the crime. “I shall now present a memorandum to the Agriculture Department regarding this matter and hopefully some action will be forthcoming,” she said.
