SANVORDEM: Four coal-laden wagons derailed near Kulem Railway Station Yard, disrupting traffic on the Vasco-Castlerock route on Sunday night.
The mishap occurred at around 6.50 pm when the goods train was proceeding from Vasco to Toranagallu in Karnataka.
South Western Railway (SWR) public relation officer Pranesh K N said that due to minor derailment, the Vasco-da-Gama to Yesvantpur bound express train was rescheduled by one-hour at 11.25 pm while, the Vasco-Kulem passenger train was short terminated at Kalay Railway Station.
Pranesh said that restoration of the affected wagons/route was taken up swiftly and that accident relief trains have been rushed to the site with restoration equipment and technicians from Vasco and Castle Rock stations. The read portion of the affected train was cleared train was cleared from the spot at 9.35 pm while, restoration/realignment of derailed wagons was in progress,
However, train services were operational on line numbers 2 and 3 as it was clear at Kulem.
Divisional Railway Manager, Hubballi, Arvind Malkhede has rushed to site along with his engineering team to supervise and ensure timely restoration of train services.Senior officers from headquarters (Chief Bridge Engineer, Chief Project Director - Bridge Works) are also on their way to coordinate and ensure speedy restoration.
