MAPUSA: Gaurav Awasthi has topped the Goa Common Entrance Test 2020 with 70 marks in Physics and 72 in Chemistry and Mathematics.
Along with Gaurav Awasthi, Sidhant Uday Govekar and Krutik Bhadreshkumar Punjabhai Patel are also amongst the top five in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Addressing media persons, Secretary Education Nila Mohanan informed that this year the test was conducted on July 4 and 5 across 16 centres in the State and Dr V N Shet, Professor from Goa College of Engineering, Farmagudi, was appointed as the Chairman of GCET 2020 to ensure smooth conduct of the examination.
Mohanan said, “Safety protocol as mandatory by the Health Department were ensured while conducting the exams. Candidates from containment zone were facilitated to appear to GCET by creating an additional test centre at the Institute of Ship Building Technology, Vasco.”
“Transport facility for the candidates from the containment zone was provided by the KTC to transport them to the centre and back without any breach of containment protocol. Outstation candidates from Goa border areas were also facilitated to appear at GCET by issuing special permit from North and South Collectors and such outstation as well as quarantine candidates were seated in isolation at the exam centres,” she added.
She informed that 2,954 candidates had registered for Physics out of which 2,817 appeared. 2,854 registered for Chemistry and 2,722 appeared and 2,190 registered for Mathematics and 2,072 appeared and three subjects in which GCET, was conducted.
“The test results have been evaluated and processed using electronic ORS (Objective Response Sheet) Technology and results are prepared with the corporation of IIT Bombay,” Mohanan said.
“From October 15, academic semester will start and before that admissions will be conducted. Now, that the results are declared, the next stage is to submit form for admission. We are processing admission for other courses such as MBBS, BDS, Ayurveda and Homeopathy. However, these admissions are based on NEET, which is scheduled on September 13,” she added.
