The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa has issued a Green Alert for Sunday, August 24, 2025, followed by a Yellow Alert from August 25 to 28. The advisory comes just ahead of the Ganesh Chaturthi festivities, which will begin on August 27 across the state.
Ganesh Chaturthi, one of Goa’s most widely celebrated festivals, honours Lord Ganesha with 10 days of prayers, rituals, music, and community gatherings. Families and communities install idols of Lord Ganesha, offer traditional sweets such as modaks, and conclude the celebration with idol immersion ceremonies in rivers, ponds, and the sea.
With the possibility of changing weather conditions, IMD has urged citizens to remain cautious during the celebrations. People are advised to follow safety instructions, avoid unnecessary outdoor activity in case of heavy rainfall, and stay updated with weather bulletins to ensure the festival is celebrated smoothly and safely.
