The Goa Women’s Forum (GWF) has written to the Directorate of Transport (South) seeking a thorough investigation into the death of 74-year-old senior citizen Berta Mascarenhas e Pinto, who was tragically run over by a bus at Betalbatim.

The forum has called for strict action against the bus driver and compensation for the victim’s family. GWF also urged authorities to implement measures to prevent similar accidents in the future.

In its letter, the forum requested a review of critical aspects such as bus certification, the driver’s licence, presence of a conductor, adherence to designated stops, road safety measures, and the role of the local panchayat in improving transport services.

Authorities are yet to respond to the request, while GWF has emphasized the need for urgent action to ensure commuter safety in the region.
