GTDC Promotes Eco-Tourism with Scenic Trek to Tambdi Surla Falls

Herald Team

The Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) has launched a special monsoon trekking expedition to the scenic Tambdi Surla Waterfalls, scheduled for Sunday, June 29, 2025. Located within the lush Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary, Tambdi Surla is a monsoon favourite, known for its forested trails, gushing streams, and tranquil natural beauty.

The trek begins at the 12th-century Tambdi Surla Shiva Temple, a heritage monument built in the Kadamba architectural style. From the temple, participants will trek through dense forests and natural streams to reach the waterfall—a moderately challenging route of about 90 minutes one way. The total distance is around 5–6 kilometers (round trip) and is suitable for individuals with average fitness levels, though first-timers can participate with basic preparation.

The waterfall, cascading from approximately 50 meters, forms a serene pool that’s ideal for a refreshing dip—though caution is advised during heavy monsoon flow. Along the way, trekkers may encounter a variety of flora and fauna, including rare birds and butterflies.

Priced at ₹1400 per person, the trek package includes transportation, guiding services, and lunch. Pick-up points include Mapusa Residency (7:00 AM), Margao Residency (6:45 AM), and Paryatan Bhavan in Panaji (7:30 AM), with additional stops at Old Goa, Banasthari, Farmagudi, and Ponda.

Participants are advised to wear sturdy trekking shoes, carry rainwear, an extra set of clothes, snacks, and binoculars. Smoking, alcohol, littering, and plastic use are strictly prohibited to maintain the sanctuary's ecological integrity.

This trek is part of GTDC’s broader push to promote eco- and adventure tourism in Goa’s hinterland, highlighting lesser-known destinations while encouraging responsible and sustainable travel.
