PANJIM: The State Election Commission (SEC) on Tuesday announced that the Harvalem Panchayat will go to polls on October 20.
Speaking to media, State Election Commissioner Daulat Hawaldar said that ward nos. 4 and 5 have been reserved for women in the five-member panchayat. However, no seats have been reserved for SC, ST and OBC candidates.
The nominations will be received from October 1 to 9, while scrutiny will take place on October 10. Nominations can be withdrawn on October 11.
Results of the polls will be announced on October 21. There are 2,091 eligible voters in the panchayat, out of which 1,037 are male while 1,054 are female. The expenditure limit per village panchayat ward for a candidate has been fixed at Rs 40,000. The polling will start from 8 am and will end at 5 pm.
The District Collector North Goa has been appointed as the District Election Officer, Mamlatdars of Bicholim taluka as Returning officer and Awal Karkun in the Office of Mamlatdar Bicholim as Assistant Returning Officer.
The SEC also announced bye-election to Ward No.VII in Orlim Village Panchayat in Salcete taluka and Ward No.VI in Morpirla Village Panchayat in Quepem taluka. District Collector South has been appointed as District Election Officer, taluka mamlatdar as Returning Officer, Awal Karkum in the office of Mamlatdar as Assistant Returning Officer. Ward No.VII has been kept unreserved, while Ward No.VI in Morpirla Panchayat has been reserved for STs. There are 198 male eligible voters in Ward No. II of Orlim Panchayat and 340 eligible voters in Morpirla Panchayat’s Ward No.VI.
