An illegal stone crusher operating at Survey No. 8/1 in Gudemol, Sanvordem, has come under scrutiny after reportedly continuing construction and fencing activities despite official stay orders issued by both the Town and Country Planning Department and the local panchayat.
The plant, which has been set up directly on a nallah (natural drainage channel), poses serious environmental concerns. Local residents and activists have raised alarms over the ongoing operations, citing potential long-term ecological damage and blatant disregard for legal directives.
The issue was recently brought up during the Gram Sabha meeting, where Deputy Sarpanch acknowledged the situation and assured villagers that action would be taken. However, to date, no concrete enforcement measures have been implemented, and the fencing activity continues unabated.
Local resident Swapnil Bhandari, who lodged a formal complaint against the stone crusher, expressed frustration at the lack of action. “The panchayat has already inspected the site and issued a stop-work notice, yet the plant continues to function openly,” he said.
Residents are now urging authorities to act swiftly and decisively to halt the illegal operations, enforce environmental protections, and uphold the rule of law.
