KTCL to Launch Smart E-Transit Cards from August 1, Replacing Paper Passes

Herald Team

Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) will phase out its paper-based monthly passes and switch entirely to smart e-transit cards starting August 1, marking a major update to its ticketing system designed to improve transparency and reduce revenue leakages.

According to KTCL officials, commuters will have access to two types of digital passes: smart e-transit cards for the general public and special e-transit passes for students and other eligible categories. All existing concessions and subsidies for students and frequent travelers will remain in place; only the medium will change from paper to digital.

As an incentive, the new cards will offer a 10% discount during the initial rollout period. The smart e-transit cards will be valid only for specific routes, requiring passengers to use them strictly between pre-defined start and end points. Anyone boarding mid-route will not be able to use the pass and will need to buy a separate ticket instead.
