The Department of Urban Development has instructed Margao Municipality’s Chief Officer, Melvyn Vaz, to remove unauthorized stalls and shops that are blocking the Electricity Department’s premises at Aquem, Margao. This directive comes after a complaint by Executive Engineer Kashinath Shetye, who highlighted that the encroachments were obstructing a crucial access pathway used by the department.

Deputy Director of Urban Development, Nadia Shekel, issued the notice, giving the municipality three days to act upon the communication. The order stresses the importance of keeping public infrastructure and utility spaces free from obstruction to ensure smooth operations and public safety.

Notably, Kashinath Shetye, who brought the issue to light in his capacity as Nodal Officer for the Electricity Department’s Land Acquisition Cell, has been recently transferred. His complaint appears to have been a catalyst for renewed efforts to curb unauthorized encroachments in Margao.
