Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar has urged the state government to regularise Dhirio, a traditional Goan bullfight, stating that it is an integral part of the state's cultural heritage.
Raising the issue in the Goa Legislative Assembly, Arolkar called for legal recognition of the sport, which has long been a subject of debate between cultural preservation and animal rights.
In response, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant clarified that Dhirio remains banned under a High Court order and the matter is currently sub judice. He added that any move toward legalisation would require a careful legal review and alignment with court directives.
