Firmly backing the continued operation of Ro-Ro ferry services, MLA Premendra Shet has ruled out giving any representation to halt them, stating that the ferries were introduced based on public demand and benefit the larger population.
“We won't give any representation to stop Ro-Ro ferry services. We want Ro-Ro ferries. These ferries were brought because people wanted them. Everybody wants them — it’s just a few people trying to drag the issue,” Shet said while addressing the matter.
Amid concerns over fare pricing, the MLA added that he has already submitted a representation to the government requesting fare relaxations for specific categories. These include vehicles carrying school-going children, tourist taxi operators from Chorao, and small goods and carrier vehicles.
Shet’s remarks come in the wake of growing debate around Ro-Ro ferry charges and accessibility, with a section of locals demanding concessions or opposing certain aspects of the service. The MLA, however, reaffirmed that the Ro-Ro initiative is a crucial transportation solution and has broad public support.
