PANJIM: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said that the government will undertake the audit of rent-a-bike and rent-a-car business in the State before allowing more operators in the State.

Speaking during a resolution tabled by Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas, the Minister expressed his displeasure over the way these rent-a-bike and ren-a-car parked haphazardly on public roads and even blocking access of the residents. He said that these operators have to operate from their offices or residences and not use the public roads.

The Minister said that there is a huge demand for taxis in the State to cater to the increasing demand of tourists and locals as well and also due to commissioning of the new airport. Almost 50 to 100 taxis will come on road every month in the State under the newly launched ‘Patrao Taxi’ scheme.

The Minister assured the Benaulim MLA that the government will continue with the badge system for taxi drivers and those taxi operators who had sanction letters for subsidy will be released subsidy. Following the assurance, Viegas withdrew his resolution.
