Health Min urged to act proactive in providing vaccines

MAPUSA:  Former Deputy Chief Minister Dayanand Narvekar on Thursday urged the Health Minister to act proactive in providing COVID-19 vaccines.

 In a letter to the Health Minister, former Dy CM stated that in Mumbai all police personnel, who have been declared as warriors; shopkeepers and their staff dealing in essential goods, are being vaccinated. The pharmaceutical sector and almost all sectors are opened for vaccination in Delhi, where centres are kept open even at night.

Narvekar further highlighted that in countries namely England and Israel, more than 50 per cent population, have been vaccinated and the surge of corona is less than other countries of Europe.

He further pointed out that India is very slow where only 5 per cent of population is vaccinated till today.

Narvekar further stated that a small State like Goa having around 15 lakh population should be leader in the country and should start vaccination for all classes of people on first-come-first-serve basis or Health Department can include young population of 35 years and above in first step and or include all police personnel and officials of the government in big way so that infection can be controlled and government functions.
