It was a planned murder. History-sheeter Vishal Golatkar killed by five armed men

PANJIM: In a move planned well in advance, five persons armed with sharp weapons allegedly murdered history sheeter Vishal Golatkar at Merces. 

Sharing details about the case, North Goa Superintendent of Police (SP) Nidhin Valsan informed that Golatkar’s murder was a planned one. He was killed late Saturday night by prime accused Sai Kundaikar alias Cobra (30) along with his accomplices 19-year-old Omkar Chari, 25-year-old Gauresh Gawas and 35-year-old Tushar Kundaikar, all residents of Merces and a minor with sharp weapons including an iron rod. The police have taken all the accused persons into custody. The prime accused has one criminal case registered against him.

The SP said, “Sai was in good terms with Golatkar, who used to ill-treat him. Sai couldn’t tolerate Golatkar, who at times, used to physically abuse him. This repetitive behaviour of Golatkar led Sai to plan the murder with the help of his aides. On Saturday night, Sai provoked Golatkar to visit a place near his house, where the he and others attacked the victim with sharp weapons, causing severe injuries leading to his death on the spot. Later, the accused persons used the victim’s two-wheeler to dispose of the body. Golatkar was murdered 1.5-km away from where his body was found.” 

Earlier in the day, Golatkar’s body was found with sharp injuries near Menezes factory in Merces.

Earlier in the day, SP Valsan had informed that the police received a PCR call on Sunday afternoon wherein information was shared that a person was lying near Menezes factory in Merces.

The police said that there were sharp injuries on the hand and head of the deceased, who was later identified as 35-year-old Vishal alias Narayan Golatkar, a resident of Merces. the deceased’s two-wheeler was also found at the spot.  Sniffer dogs along with a forensic team were pressed into service to collect evidence from the spot and subsequently, the body was sent to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim for post-mortem.

The police informed that Golatkar had a criminal background and was reportedly involved in at least eight different cases registered at various police stations across the State. 

The police said that cases of alleged robbery, kidnapping, murder threat, extortion, etc, stand registered against him. 

Based on the complaint filed by the deceased’s sister, the Old Goa Police registered FIR under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and further investigation is in progress.
