PANJIM: Law Minister Nilesh Cabral said his department is in the process of finalising the white paper on his proposal to make pre-marital counselling mandatory for the registration process of marriages in Goa.

It may be recalled that last month, Cabral had announced that his department would be implementing this decision, subject to it being cleared by the cabinet. However, there was stiff opposition to this decision, particularly from his BJP.

The Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had then said the government would not be going ahead with the idea, prompting the law minister to state that his department would collect data on the rise in divorce cases in the State over the last couple of years, and submit it to the CM for him to take a studied decision on the matter.
