Locals call for mini-containment zones in Zuarinagar and Velsao

Herald Team

Vasco: There has been a call from locals for the immediate creation of mini-containment zones in Zuarinagar and Velsao following detection of COVID cases in these areas.

Locals have demanded that the State government immediately shifts its attention towards Zuarinagar given that it’s densely populated and could lead to a major outbreak.

Olencio Simoes, Goenchea Raponkarancho Ekvott General Secretary from Cansaulim pointed out that more than four COVID positive cases had surfaced in Zuarinagar-Birla area. He alleged that the health department had not yet inspected or undertaken tests in the area.

Olencio demanded that those who had tested positive be given instructions for undergoing self quarantine and claimed that this had not been done as of now.

Citing the example of the Mangor hill area, where cases from here spread to other parts of Goa, Simoes felt that Zuarinagar poses a similar risk given that 15,000 people stay there.

“So there are likely chances that the COVID cases in Zuarinagar might spread like wildfire, therefore necessary precautions should be taken immediately in this area,” Olencio added.  He also demanded that the Health Secretary visits the area to take stock of the situation.

He further pointed out that four COVID cases were detected in Velsao and thus the area concerned in the village should be declared as a mini-containment zone to stop the spread of cases.

The General Secretary of the Goa United Workmen Union of Zuarinagar Sancoale, opined that in ward 7 of Sancoale around four CoVID positive cases have been detected. I urge the State government to look into the Zuarinagar issue before it’s too late.
