PONDA: After a tragic road accident that took the life of one and injured another on Sunday, the dangerous junction at Dharbandora has come under scrutiny of the locals. In the last 12 years, two persons from Davkon village have lost their lives, while several other mishaps have occurred at this junction. Despite frequent accidents, PWD and NHAI engineers have failed to come up with road engineering solutions to put an end to accidents.
The view of motorists going to Sanvordem through the junction is obstructed and they are often caught off-guard by speeding oncoming vehicles which lead to mishaps.
It is important to note that the quadrupling of Ponda to Mollem road will be undertaken soon, which will inevitably make the Dharbandora junction the centre of controversy all over again. It is evident that there is an absolute need for an underpass at the junction to avoid the mishaps so that vehicles moving from Usgao to Sanvordem can safely take the underpass. It is also important to note that there are rumblers on the road going to Sanvordem to limit the speed but not on the Mollem to Ponda road and vice-versa.
“NHAI has to immediately come up with a resolution to fix the engineering flaw at the junction. There is also a need to erect signboards in the panchayat where the national highway passes through. The panchayat had written to the Deputy Collector a few days ago,” Dharbandora Sarpanch Balaji alias Vinayak Gawas said.
