MARGAO: Chairperson of the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) Damodar Shirodkar reiterated that all alleged malpractices of the former Chief Officer (CO) will be reported to the government.
Speaking to reporters, the Chairperson stated that it was the CO’s responsibility to inform him about any issues related to the payment of Wi-Fi bills.
He also noted that, in reality, there is no company listed in the documents that is engaged in providing Wi-Fi services to the Margao Municipality.
It is pertinent to note that, following the Rs 17 lakh scandal, a new scam involving Rs 17,000 has come to light, exposing further irregularities within the civic body. Shockingly, the same staff member, Yogesh Shetkar, who was implicated in the Rs. 17 lakh scam, is also involved in this new scam.
On Monday, in response to questions from the media, the Chairperson reiterated the allegation that former Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar was complicit with the concerned staff in the misappropriation of funds.
“There are several malpractices involving a former Chief Officer, and we will bring these issues to the government’s attention, demanding an inquiry,” said Shirodkar.
“How is it possible that the voucher is issued in the name of the municipal staff instead of the concerned agency,” questioned Shirodkar.
Meanwhile, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat announced that the government will soon appoint a full-time Chief Officer for the Margao Municipality.
“Considering the workload, Margao Municipality requires a full-time Chief Officer. Currently, Ajit Panchwadkar is handling the additional charge of the civic body and is processing files expeditiously,” he stated.
