PORVORIM: Many residents of Mapusa and the surrounding areas have to return from the Mapusa Mamlatdar without getting any work done due to a staff shortage.
Some of the staff members have been sent for training, while no arrangements for replacements have been made. The mamlatdar office has a vast jurisdiction, comprising a municipality and 32 panchayats in Bardez.
Mapusa stamp vendor J Fernandes, who had visited the mamlatdar on Friday to get a challan printed for the purchase of stamp papers, was forced to return home as no official of the revenue section was there to attend to him.
Fernandes informed that stamp vendors are required to go to the mamlatdar office to get a challan printed and then proceed to State of Bank of India to make the payment.
Upon inquiry, he was told that the staff was sent for training. He tried to contact Mamlatdar Madhu Narvekar, but the latter’s phone was engaged. He added, “Nobody in the office came forward to help despite repeated requests.”
When Herald tried to call the Mamlatdar, the latter’s mobile phone was switched off.
