PORVORIM: Leader of the Opposition, Yuri Alemao, on Wednesday raised the issue of a student missing admission to a professional college due to a delay in issuing the marksheet for the academic year 2023 by Goa University.

Raising the matter during Zero Hour in the Legislative Assembly, Yuri said that Goa University fails to process, update, and deliver the marksheets of students in time, resulting in students losing an academic year and adversely affecting their careers.

Yuri cited the case of a student, Astle D’Souza from Cuncolim, who graduated from Cuncolim Educational Society in 2023. In 2022, due to personal difficulties, he could not attend a 15-mark geography practical on the scheduled date, but he answered it the very next month and cleared the paper. However, the University failed to update his marksheet despite numerous letters from Cuncolim College and several visits to the University since 2022.

According to Yuri, the University, after receiving a legal notice on July 29, , handed over the updated marksheet the next day. D’Souza wishes to pursue law, but his admission to law school is unlikely as the college administration mentioned that he furnished the updated marksheet after the stipulated time period, by which time the seats were already full.

He added that D’Souza scored 70 in GUCLAT. Due to the failure of Goa University to issue the updated marksheet in time, this student now has to waste an entire year before getting admission to a professional college, he lamented.
