‘Conflict between Vasco taximen and pvt bus operators may escalate into law-and-order situation’

PORVORIM: Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Tuesday raised concerns about the conflict between taxi operators and private bus operators outside Vasco railway station. Speaking during Zero Hour, Salkar said, “There is fear and anxiety among taxi operators and owners regarding the business conducted by private buses without any permits at Vasco Railway Station, both in the early hours of the morning and in the evening. This situation is depriving the taxi owners, who have been operating for many years, of their daily earnings.”

He expressed concern that this issue might escalate into a law-and-order situation.

Yuri slams Goa Univ recruitment sans domicile, Konkani knowledge clauses

PORVORIM: Leader of the Opposition, Yuri Alemao, on Tuesday expressed concern over the fear and anxiety among the youth due to the vacancies announced by Goa University, which did not specify the requirement for a domicile clause or mandatory knowledge of Konkani. Raising the matter during Zero Hour in the Legislative Assembly, Yuri Alemao alleged that Goa University had become a “colony of Kerala,” with Planning Board Members, Finance Committee, and Board of Studies members all chosen from Kerala. The Opposition Leader stated that it was inconceivable that the recruitment rules of Goa University do not include these basic safeguards for local students and youth. He urged the Chief Minister to take immediate action on this serious issue. However, the Chief Minister did not respond to the matter, stating that the issue had already been discussed and that he would look into it. Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral noted that he had raised the issue on Monday and that the Chief Minister had assured him he would address it.

Goa University had issued an advertisement on August 2, inviting applications from candidates to fill some of the vacant posts.

Goan youth unable to secure jobs in Postal Department: Venzy

PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant informed the State Assembly on Tuesday that he has written to the Centre, requesting that recruitment exams for the Department of Posts be held exclusively in Goa in the future. He was responding to a Zero Hour mention raised by Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas, who expressed concerns about the fear and anxiety among Goan youth due to their inability to secure jobs in the Postal Department. Viegas highlighted that Goa’s attachment to the Maharashtra circle results in almost all vacancies being filled by residents of Maharashtra. Viegas recalled that the Chief Minister had previously assured that he would speak to the Centre about establishing an independent Goa Circle for the Postal Department, which would ensure 100 percent placement for local youth.

Fatorda MLA pushes for NEET PG exam centre in Goa

PORVORIM: Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Tuesday urged the government to request the Centre to establish a NEET PG exam centre in Goa, in the larger interest of students.

Raising the matter during Zero Hour in the Legislative Assembly, Vijai expressed concern about the fear and anxiety among parents and students regarding the allotment of NEET exam centres in other States. He noted that a centre had already been allocated in Kerala and requested Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to take up the issue with Union Health Minister J P Nadda. Sawant confirmed that the matter was brought to his attention and that he had already written a request letter and spoken with Union Health Minister Nadda. “I am trying my level best,” Sawant said, adding that Kerala had requested a centre a long time ago.
