PERNEM: New building of the Airport police station at Mopa was inaugurated on Tuesday by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in the presence of DGP Jaspal Singh, Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar and others.
“Connectivity and security are interlinked. So far Pernem had road and rail connectivity but now air connectivity has also commenced. This police station will effectively address the security requirements at the airport,” the Chief Minister said.
Sawant also appealed to the people of Pernem to reap the benefits of business, job and other developmental opportunities taking place in the taluka.
DGP Jaspal Singh said, “An airport is the most critical facility of the country as there are many threat perceptions in such areas and therefore the presence of police, para military force, special forces and special branches are essential. Keeping all these requirements in mind, provision has been made for special branches, traffic, anti-terrorist squad and other as whenever any emergency happens at the airport, quick response is required. Apart from the airport, the police station will also cater to eight villages as a result, people will not require to go all the way to Pernem police station.”
